On March 6, 2024, the Bergisch Land Mechanical Engineering Network went on another excursion to Aachen—more specifically, to the WZL Smart Automation Lab at RWTH Aachen University.
The goal of the Smart Automation Lab is the continuous improvement of production processes to increase productivity, enhance flexibility, and reduce resource consumption. Information technology and automation technology are combined to realize the vision of the Internet of Production, using innovative technologies such as smart robotics, AI, and the metaverse.
In a variety of different demonstration scenarios from industry, such as robot-based glass pane assembly and collaborative assembly of small parts, the Smart Automation Lab offered us exciting insights into current research projects and current issues and fields of application in industry. The open presentation and introduction by the WZL team provided opportunities to address detailed questions, resulting in a fruitful exchange of new ideas and insights for both sides.
We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the WZL on behalf of our members for the very successful visit to the Smart Automation Lab.
